Yamamoto Sake Brewery
A night in Kawauchi begins with this cup of coffee. "Satsuma Godai" is a shop full of passion and tradition that has revived the lost sweet potato "Norin No. 2."
Located in Godaicho, Satsumasendai City, overlooking the sacred Mount Kanmuri, Yamamoto Shuzo has been brewing Satsuma Godai, one of the most beloved shochu in the area, since its founding in 1912.
Their sake brewing is the very definition of "learning from the past to discover the new." While they use state-of-the-art equipment to consistently produce high-quality sake, they also continue to carefully preserve traditional hand-made methods.
What is particularly noteworthy is their extraordinary passion for their ingredients. They have successfully revived the legendary potato variety "Norin No. 2" on their own farm, which was cultivated in the early Showa period but disappeared due to the difficulty of production. The shochu made from this potato brings back memories for those who remember the old days, and conveys the rich, mellow "original potato flavor" that is new to the younger generation.
